Talabong Bird Sanctuary & Mangrove Park

Perhaps the most important role of mangroves is that they protect vulnerable coastlines from wave action because they hold the soil together and prevent coastal erosion. ... Mangrove forests provide homes for several species of plants and animals.

The uses of mangroves falls into two categories, firstly the use of the mangrove ecosystem as a whole or its conversion to other uses, and secondly, the use of products from the mangrove ecosystem.

Ecologically mangroves are important in maintaining and building the soil, as a reservoir in the tertiary assimilation of waste, and in the global cycle of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulfur.

The largest remaining mangrove forest in the entire island of Oriental Negros.

Only 45 Kilometers North of Dumaguete City, the Talabong Mangrove Park is a 400-hectare wide mangrove forest which naturally favors bird and wildlife habitation.

The Tabalong Mangrove Park is another must see tourist destination in Bais City. The fun begins at the 5,968 boardwalk platform. The sanctuary is home to native birds and other wildlife. You'll have the chance to see birds fly the pristine canopy as you take in the symphony of whistles and chirps. The Talabong Mangrove Park is truly a fascinating and enjoyable experience.

A visit to this park is usually one of the stops when going on an organized group tour to watch dolphins and whales at the Tañon Strait. Coming from South Bais Bay, a 15 minute boat ride will take you to the entrance of the Bird Sanctuary and Mangrove Park. From there you trod on a network of raised split bamboo walkways (extending about a hundred meters) which the local government and residents have constructed for easier access. The park is one of Bais City’s most successful tourist attractions.
